‘Alabaster 2018’ & ‘Teso La Monja 2016’ will be inducted in the “LEAGUE OF 99”

For the second straight year Alabaster and Teso La Monja will be included in the “LEAGUE OF 99” from Grupo Gourmets.

With great pride, we want to share with you that during the upcoming event “34 Salón Gourmets” from Gourmets Group. The award ceremony will take place during the International Premium Food and Beverage Fair that will take place at IFEMA (Madrid) in April 2021.

In this edition two of our wines from Teso La Monja have been included to the list: ‘Alabaster 2018’ & ‘Teso La Monja 2016’.  Both wines have been granted 99 points, the maximum possible score conceded by the Guide.

Alabaster 2018

Our chief wine maker Marcos Eguren describes the wine as one with “Profound balance, terroir expression, elegant, silky and authentic”.

  • Proprietary vineyards situated in Valmediano, La Jara and Marinacea located in Toro (Zamora)
  • Surface: 11,5Ha. Average Age: more than one hundred years old.
  • Tinta de Toro (100%), pre-phylloxera (own rooted Vitis Vinifera) and autochthonous.
  • Type of training: Head-trained in goblet. Soil amendments: Organic material.
  • Vinification: Traditional method, 100% de-stemmed. Fermented in open French oak deposits with indigenous yeast selected from our own vineyards, traditional foot press with daily pump-overs.
  • Maceration: Extended maceration on skins for 23 days. Temperature controlled at 26ºC.
  • Malolactic Fermentation: In new French oak Bordelaise barrels.
  • Aging: 16 to 18 months in new French oak Bordelaise Barrels.

Teso La Monja 2016

According to Marcos Eguren: Teso La Monja “Is an invitation to enjoy the magic of Tinta de Toro, that intimate tie between the vineyard and its environment, in a wine born to be a legend, embraced by generation after generation, and standing the test of time.

Uncork ‘Teso La Monja 2016’ and embark on a fascinating journey to a small enchanted plot of land, with that mystical nature found only in privileged terroirs that have achieved the status of natural heritage with the passing of decades. Man is called to preserve these special terroirs with tender care, as if they were precious and fragile treasures.

The purity of the terroir

Five generations of winegrowers, with roots in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, have woven a long history of mutual understanding between man and vine, to extract the virtues of the unique varieties: tempranillo, in D.O.Ca. Rioja and the Tinta de Toro in D.O. Toro applying all of the necessary efforts to capture the expressiveness in exceptional wines with the utmost purity, rooted to the terroir.

Marcos Eguren, at the head of the winegrowing side of the business, and Miguel Eguren, who manages as the President of the Group, are leading a project to search for wines that evoke the vineyard, with a lot of versatility and personality. Guillermo, father of the current generation that now holds the reins of the winery group, considers himself above all to be a collector of vineyards. And that is the message received by his sons, who have done an excellent job at looking after the vineyards, showing maximum respect for the fruit in the winery, with their philosophy for obtaining wines that have become modern day classics: wines that stand the test of time, that combine fruit, potency and structure with elegance, freshness and subtlety.
