Jeb is well known for providing cutting-edge, comprehensive commentaries and reviews on the top wines and wine regions of the world. In 2017, Jeb decided to leave Robert Parker´s Wine Advocate – after having published more reviews than any other professional reviewer – and go back to his roots as an independent wine critic, launching his own publication.
Jeb Dunnuck´s reviews are 100% independent. In his own words: “I accept no advertising, and I have – and always will – pay my own way. This is the only way to guarantee 100% freedom of “wine critic” speech. I will ensure this is a guiding principle behind every word published.” Jeb Dunnuck
For yet another year the renowned American wine critic Jeb Dunnuck has granted top scores to Sierra Cantabria´s wines in his Importer Highlight Report. Dunnuck has acknowledged our wines as being among the very best in Rioja, and our vineyards high atop his rankings.
Finca El Bosque 2017 leads the ranking, with 98+ points. “This single plot wine hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture, and flawless overall balance. Just beautifully done, it has that rare mix of elegance and power, let me tell you, it’s a magical bottle of wine”, according to Dunnuck.
It is closely followed, with 98 points, by La Nieta 2017, from the Viñedos De Páganos (DOCa Rioja), a wine that also comes from a single plot and according to Jeb is “rich, powerful and never puts a foot wrong, offering an opulent, expansive mouthfeel, building yet fine, seamless tannins, flawless balance, and monster of a finish.”
With 97 points, we find Amancio 2016 and Alabaster 2017. Mr. Dunnuck perfectly reviews these as “just beautifully done, flawlessly balanced and one thing is for sure, these are all brilliant wines!”
San Vicente 2017 with 96 points, is “rich and powerful, yet also balanced and elegant just a beautiful wine.” 95 points were granted to 2016 Sierra Cantabria Coleccion Privada which “shows the fresher, more elegant style of the vintage and offers a beautiful bouquet, I think it’s a beautiful wine.”- Says Jeb.
Several of our wines garnered scores of 94 points, such as Sierra Cantabria Reserva Única 2016, Sierra CantabriaGran Reserva 2009, Victorino 2017 and El Puntido 2017. The list goes on with excellent reviews and great scores that you can check out over at https://jebdunnuck.com/
Five generations of winegrowers, with roots in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, have woven a long history of mutual understanding between man and vine, to extract the virtues of the unique varieties: tempranillo, in D.O.Ca. Rioja and the Tinta de Toro in D.O. Toro applying all of the necessary efforts to capture the expressiveness in exceptional wines with the utmost purity, rooted to the terroir.
Marcos Eguren, at the head of the winegrowing side of the business, and Miguel Eguren, who manages as the President of the Group, are leading a project to search for wines that evoke the vineyard, with a lot of versatility and personality. Guillermo, father of the current generation that now holds the reins of the winery group, considers himself above all to be a collector of vineyards. And that is the message received by his sons, who have done an excellent job at looking after the vineyards, showing maximum respect for the fruit in the winery, with their philosophy for obtaining wines that have become modern day classics: wines that stand the test of time, that combine fruit, potency and structure with elegance, freshness and subtlety.
