Viñedos y Bodegas Sierra Cantabria´s acknowledgement to the third generation of this family of grape growers and collectors of vineyards with roots in San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
CVC88 is a special limited wine; as much as the tribute that his sons, Miguel and Marcos Eguren wanted to pay to Guillermo Eguren who, like this wine, is unique and unrepeatable.
To appreciate the relevance of this wine we must first recognize its place of origin: the old vineyard of San Pelayo in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. This single vineyard was planted in 1960 and is quite exposed to the north, providing the freshness and acidity necessary for long ageing. The extension of this plot is no more than 1.49 hectares of Tempranillo grapes and was planted by Guillermo himself in his home town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, without knowing that in the future, on that same hillside, the Viñedos Sierra Cantabria winery would be built. This wine is the culmination of the fact that the earth gives us back what we give it.
As the label says in Spanish, CVC ´Conjunto de Varias Cosechas´, is a Collection of several harvests. Marcos Eguren has chosen the 2007, 2010 and 2012 vintages for their exceptional virtues
The 2007 was cold, the 2012 was relatively warm and extremely dry, and the 2010 was exceptional and balanced, which makes it the perfect balance with the two aforementioned vintages. All of them have been aged separately, in new French oak barrels, respecting their purity and individual personality.
The result is a 100% Tempranillo wine, elegant, with great character, complex and a unique identity destined to last over time. The average aging of the three vintages has been 98 months, i.e. just over 8 years. The union of all the pieces of this wonderful puzzle took place in January 2019.
Sierra Cantabria CVC is tradition combined with the authenticity of a vineyard.
In addition to the wine, which is an oenological jewel, CVC88 stands out for its carefully cured aesthetics. As part of the tribute, the Eguren Family requested that the Japanese artist Yukimasa Ida created a spectacular portrait of Guillermo for the label. The artist’s impressive strokes on this 2.27m x 1.62m canvas, have perfectly captured the proud gaze of a man looking at his vineyards.
CVC88 is being launched to the market as an exclusive limited-edition wine of 2057 unrepeatable bottles. An honest heart felt project that shows:
“that things, if done correctly will stand the test of time.”
