MÁGICO. Def. It boasts qualities that make it very attractive and captivating, as it is extraordinary within its genre.
Sierra Cantabria Mágico proceeds from a small vineyard: El Vardallo (also known as Las Sepulturas, or The Tombs) measuring 1.18 hectares, located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
It is a vineyard planted and grafted after the phylloxera crisis in the early 20th century, with a wide variety of both red and white grapes. Among the reds, it is 65% Tempranillo, 20% Grenache, 2.5% Graciano, 1% Petit Bouschet, and 1.1%, others. As for its white varieties, it is 4.4% Calagraño, 3.2% Turruntés and 2.8% Viura.
Wine is a world of sensations and emotions that takes us on journeys. As Riojans, we are always seeking genuine and pure wines that transmit their roots: the landscape, culture, tradition, ancestors, family and personal experiences. In this wine, Sierra Cantabria Mágico, all these qualities come together.
Sierra Cantabria CVC exudes the tradition linked to the authenticity of the vineyard.
Sierra Cantabria CVC was born from the San Pelayo plot: 1.49 hectares located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, on the slope of the new Viñedos Sierra Cantabria winery.
This vineyard was planted in 1960, with 90% Tempranillo, and 10% other varieties, with only Tempranillo being used to craft this wine.
We started to produce and nurture this wine with a view to creating one that would maintain all that character, complexity, elegance and identity, unique in time. We selected three vintages for this first edition: 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The 2008 vintage is fresh, a wine with vigour and less structure. The 2009 vintage, in contrast, is warm, powerful, full-bodied, and glyceric, with a stunning complexity. From the moment it joined the 2008 vintage, their synthesis demonstrated a greatness far superior to each of them separately, as if they were pieces to a puzzle.
Finally, 2010 is a vintage of balance between the other two, a unique wine of a purity, complexity and finesse that make it unforgettable. The average ageing of the three vintages was 70 months; that is, almost 6 years.
