The renowned North American publication Robert Parker´s Wine Advocate has awarded the highest ratings for the wines of Teso La Monja in the D.O. Toro.

Ranked at the top, Alabaster 2019 with 96 points is the highest rated wine form the D.O. Toro in this year’s review (2021). According to the publication: “Alabaster is a very showy, aromatic, floral and open, elegant and harmonious wine. It’s nuanced and complex, with lots of elegance, 2019 is among the finest vintages for this bottling. It’s both powerful and elegant, floral and nuanced”. Alabaster 2018 with 95 points “feels like a very classical vintage.”

Victorino 2019 with 93 points and Victorino 2018 with 94 points are described as wines with “ripe and juicy fruit, creamy, very round and with silky tannins” … Victorino ”is tasty and has a clean and defined finish.”

Almirez 2019 scores 92 points.  “The wine is very fruit-driven and does not come through as oaky. It’s floral, spicy and juicy, ripe without excess and with a velvety mouthfeel. This is approachable from early on, and even now, it has the silky tannins from 2019. It’s less tannic than other vintages and has very good balance. There is more depth here, provided by the older vines, and there’s more nuance too.”

Romanico 2019 boasts 91 points “…fruit-driven (black fruit), with purity and something floral; it’s juicy and tender, with ripe, round tannins and a soft, caressing mouthfeel. It’s clean and balanced with neatly integrated oak.”

Miguel y Marcos Eguren

The purity of the terroir

Five generations of winegrowers, with roots in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, have woven a long history of mutual understanding between man and vine, to extract the virtues of the unique varieties: Tempranillo, in D.O.Ca. Rioja and the Tinta de Toro in D.O. Toro applying all of the necessary efforts to capture the expressiveness in exceptional wines with the utmost purity, rooted to the terroir.

Marcos Eguren, at the head of the winegrowing side of the business, and Miguel Eguren, who manages as the President of the Group, are leading a project to search for wines that evoke the vineyard, with a lot of versatility and personality. Guillermo, father of the current generation that now holds the reins of the winery group, considers himself above all to be a collector of vineyards. And that is the message received by his sons, who have done an excellent job at looking after the vineyards, showing maximum respect for the fruit in the winery, with their philosophy for obtaining wines that have become modern day classics: wines that stand the test of time, that combine fruit, potency and structure with elegance, freshness and subtlety.
