The Guia del Vino Cotidiano (Daily Wine Guide) assigned “Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2012” and “Románico 2014” top scores on its Honour Roll.
The 7th edition of this publication recognised the quality of Viñedos y Bodegas Sierra Cantabria wines, classed among Spain’s best wines for less than 10 euros.
The Eguren family reaffirms its leadership, ascending the podium alongside Spain’s best winemaking groups, its wines included among the best tasted in the 2016/17 guides.
This time it was the 7th edition of La Guía del Vino Cotidiano – which, like every year, recommends the best Spanish wines priced at under 10 euros – that placed “Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2012” and “Románico 2014” on its honour roll (cuadro de honor). Both wines easily surpassed the 90-point mark, thereby classifying Viñedos y Bodegas Sierra Cantabria wines among the best in the country.
“Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2012,” with an intense ruby colour, features aromas of red and fresh fruit (strawberry), good intensity, and is well blended, with tinges of spices, vanilla and wood.
“Románico 2014,” with a purple colour, emanates aromas of red fruit, with notes of liquorice on the palate, a good tannic structure, and balanced acidity and freshness.
Inaugurated in 2007, “Teso La Monja” marked a new era for the Rioja winegrowing family in Toro, after “Numanthia Termes”, the winery which they started out in the region over 15 years ago.
The Eguren family very carefully chose the vineyard for its new stage in Toro, selecting north-facing fields with longer growing seasons and cooler soil, to furnish the Tinta de Toro grapes with greater refinement.
In this way Románico 2014 reflects all the winery’s expertise, with its wines among the DO’s top-ranked, revealing a path of identification with the territory, an understanding of the vineyard, and all the expressiveness and authenticity of the Tinta de Toro grape.
Five generations of winemakers, with roots in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, have woven a tapestry telling a tale of rapport between man and vineyard, taking full advantage of all the potential of a unique variety, the Tempranillo, making every effort necessary to transmit its expressiveness through a set of exceptional wines of the highest purity and identification with the land.
Marcos Eguren, heading up the oenological work, with the help of his son Eduardo, and Miguel Eguren in management, lead a project dedicated to the search for wines that evoke the vineyard, of a great versatility and marked personality. Guillermo, the father of the current generation holding the wine group’s reins, considers himself, above all, a collector of vineyards. And his sons have appreciated that role, with their philosophy firmly rooted in excellent care for the vineyard and the utmost respect for the winery’s fruit, to produce wines constituting new classics … wines that endure over time, combining fruit, strength and structure with elegance, freshness and subtlety.
The wide range of quality wines by the Eguren family includes more than twenty labels on the market from its six wineries: Sierra Cantabria, Viñedos Sierra Cantabria, Señorío de San Vicente, and Viñedos de Páganos, the Rioja DOCa; Teso La Monja, in the Toro DO; and Dominio de Eguren, under the Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla designation.
