The Great Wine Capitals Global Network granted the prize, in the “Architecture, Parks and Gardens” category, to the winery located in the town of P\u00e1ganos.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Thursday, November 10th 2017 international “Best of Wine Tourism” awards were bestowed at the Sao Bento da Vitoria Monastery in Oporto.<\/p>\n

\"BEST-OF-2017\"These awards are an initiative by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, which spans 9 wine-growing regions around the world and issues annual prizes granted in various categories by country.<\/p>\n

This year 359 wineries worldwide<\/strong> were considered as part of an effort to recognise the wine tourism efforts of companies all over the globe and the experiences they offer.<\/p>\n

\"best_of_wine_tourism_2017-vinedos_de_paganos-10\"Vi\u00f1edos de P\u00e1ganos was one of the wineries honoured<\/strong> at the gala dinner marking the end of the network’s annual general meeting. The awards’ panel highlighted the architecture of this modern winery, carved into rock and boasting two exceptional vineyards: El Puntido and La Nieta<\/strong>, painstakingly cared for like gardens.<\/p>\n

The award was accepted by Miguel Eguren, who stressed in his remarks that “Vi\u00f1edos de P\u00e1ganos is a project that began in 1998 to carry on the work”<\/strong> of his father, Don Guillermo Eguren<\/strong>. He also emphasised that the “cellars are dug into natural stone, and were crafted to reflect the philosophy of our great-grandfather, ageing the wine under the most natural conditions possible\u201d.\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

UnA winery carved out under its vineyards<\/h2>\n

At the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria is the medieval village of Laguardia, an ideal enclave prized by farmers ever since Neolithic times for its exceptional climatic and geological conditions.<\/p>\n

There, right in the heart of the vineyard, sculpted under the cold rock, and behind a majestic door cut from the stone, is the Eguren family’s Vi\u00f1edos de P\u00e1ganos. Founded in 1998 by Miguel and Marcos Eguren, the aim of the winery is to turn out great wines that capture the unique characteristics and personality of the vineyard’s climate, soil and varieties.<\/p>\n
